Human Platelet Lysate

Human platelet lysate (HPL) is a multifactorial supplement obtained from human platelets, which contains abundant growth factors and cytokines necessary for cell growth and proliferation. In a wide range of applications, HPL is considered a good substitute for animal serum. The replacement of fetal bovine serum (FBS) with HPL can reduce the immunogenicity and remove the transmission of zoonotic diseases, which is beneficial to the clinical application of cell proliferation or production.

Two main differences in HPL protein content compared to FBS are the higher content of immunoglobulins and the possible presence of fibrinogen and other coagulation factors, when HPL is produced without thrombin activation.
